The Brief – was to design an expo pavilion the presented the New Zealand culture to the world, from our landscape, Maori Culture, the Arts, Sport, our unique food, Budget – $11,000,000.00
Peter Hill of Peter Hill Architects designed the building while Karl Majurey assisted & documented the project. This was a once in a life time opportunity to design a building that represented New Zealand we nick named it “The Elegant Shed”. We designed a building to suit the function that was required rather than an Architectural statement, which most other Pavilions did. It was one of the top seven pavilions at expo & was kept by the Spanish Government at the end of the event. No others were as you had to remove your building from site once the event ended.
